State Vice President

Serves as the leader for the state of Indiana, overseeing state-level planning, implementation and evaluation of income sources. Maintains successful relationship development of corporate  and community partnerships.  Personal responsibility for cultivating relationships with wealthy individuals and key corporate executive leaders, Supervises the state’s management team, ensuring compliance with all financial policies and procedures and internal control requirements.  Strategically and tactically leverages volunteer and staff resources to achieve goals. 

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Motivates and leads a high performance team through effective recruitment, selection, hiring, coaching, development, empowerment, guidance and accountability of direct reports.
  • Direct responsibility for the successful implementation of the State’s activities in income development, mission including both community and state based mission priorities and community and volunteer development.
  • Provides leadership and directs the development of key markets to ensure income growth in order to achieve and exceed goals and objectives including existing and future income streams.
  • Works in direct alignment with GLD priorities for each of our primary initiatives including RFL, MSABC, Worksite, Mission/Advocacy, Marketing programs as identified.
  • Leads and directs state field operations focusing on current strategic and business plan objectives in the delivery of mission delivery and successful income development, utilizing community leadership volunteers.
  • Ensures that there are adequate leadership volunteers to effectively implement GLD programs, services and income development.
  • Develops annual and long-term goals to ensure continued growth and stability in the state. Establishes and/or utilizes specific measures of desired outcomes to accurately assess organizational and state performance for each market.
  • Selects, positions, and utilizes human, technological and fiscal resources to reach organizational objectives.
  • Represents the American Cancer Society in state and community activities in a high-level positive way to stimulate interest, involvement and to cultivate strong partnerships and relationships in regard to the Society's goals and objectives.
  • Seeks outs opportunities to better serve diverse constituents affected by cancer.
  • Encourages staff and volunteers to seek out and identify opportunities to decrease disparities in underserved populations
  • Maintains relationships with volunteer leaders to identify community needs, concerns and plans; assures communication to Community based volunteer leaders of Division, State and Regional policies and procedures.
  • Acts in an exemplary fashion before staff, volunteers and donors at all times when conducting business on behalf of the Society; Leads by example, personally demonstrating the behaviors expected of staff throughout the American Cancer Society.
  • Proactively and assertively addresses issues as they arise. Leads the State Mgt. Team in creating/implementing business plans.
  • Develops & manages operating budget; makes business based decisions; maintains accurate files, submits timely and accurate reports; meets timelines, follows through; apprises Chief Staff Officer,  Field Operations and Income of status; provides viable & innovative solutions to problems; attends meetings/trainings, adheres to approved policy/procedure, represents the organization in a professional manner; makes effective presentations.
  • Works in coordination with other division leaders to ensure staff and volunteer follow best practices and guidelines, ensuring success for all initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and  Demonstrated experience in successful volunteer leadership including working with high level volunteers and external partners.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising others and leading and developing high performance teams.  Successful experience in strategic planning.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising and income development, program development, volunteer leadership, talent strategy/staff development, business operations and budget management.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft and Internet based applications.
  • Remains composed under stress; handles self in a professional manner at all times and takes personal responsibility for delivering on personal and organizational commitments.
  • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a focused manner
  • Ability to work independently with minimum direction
  • Ability to coordinate and implement multiple responsibilities, projects and priorities
  • Acts in the best interest of the organization and enhances the image of the American Cancer Society in the public eye.
  • Utilizes available technology to perform position responsibilities.
  • Provides effective verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with others.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities, as appropriate.
  • Manages resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Applies and follows American Cancer Society policies and guidelines.
  • Provides high quality customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Completes work in a timely and efficient manner and ensures work is accurate.
  • Lift and carry at least 25 pounds

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends and some overnights
